DOE released LED lamp installation project results: 80% power saving
A GATEWAY report issued by the US Department of Energy (DOE) pointed out that the 87-inch incandescent wall washers at the University of Maryland's Clarice Smith show center have been replaced with LED lights with the same lighting effect. The result is a significant reduction in maintenance costs and energy consumption. The project began simulations in early 2014 and was renovated in 2015. The ultimate goal is to preserve the original appearance of the show center, reduce maintenance costs, and save power is an added advantage. There were two options that were budgetary at the time: one was to replace all the wall washers with LED lights, and the other was to replace the existing wall washers with LED modules. The simulated situation gives us the opportunity to actually assess factors such as light distribution, glare, color, tinting behavior, and strobe. The US Energy Agency said that many of the above factors were evaluated to replace the entire LED wall washer, which is not ideal. However, the application of the LED module is relatively economical, and the quality of the illumination is more suitable and easy to install, so it is the most suitable solution for this time. Compared with incandescent lamps, LED lamps save about 80% of electricity bills. Although the results of the renovation are somewhat different from the previous incandescent effects, the University of Maryland said it is still within acceptable limits. All LED modules have been functioning so far and do not require any additional repairs. The General Affairs Office of the school is quite satisfied with the LED lighting renovation, and said that it will continue to replace the campus lighting with LED lighting in the future.
