Trade frictions encountered by China's textile industry

In recent years, trade frictions faced by textiles have become increasingly diversified, from initial quota restrictions, anti-dumping and special safeguard measures to current forms of countervailing subsidies, technical barriers, corporate social responsibility, and recalls. In particular, since the outbreak of the financial crisis, the unemployment population in various countries has increased and the consumption of residents has decreased. As a result, market demand has further shrunk and textile trade frictions have become increasingly fierce. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, in 2010 China's textile and garment industry received a total of 40 anti-dumping-related cases, which was basically the same as in 2009. In 2010, countries (regions) did not launch special safeguard measures for China's textile and clothing cases, which greatly reduced compared with 2009.

In the area of ​​technical barriers to trade, in 2010, the Canadian Health Department’s report on the recall of textile and apparel products in China showed a substantial growth trend. A total of 23 notifications were issued, a substantial increase from 2008 and 2009. The most involved products were children's clothing. In 2010, in the recall report of the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the United States, there were 37 notifications concerning textiles and apparel related products in China, an increase of 54.2% year-on-year, of which the products involved were mostly children's clothing or articles involving children. In 2010, the European Commission's non-food rapid alert system issued a total of 304 recalls on textiles and apparel products to China, an increase of 42.7% year-on-year. The products involved were mainly children's clothing and toys.
