The German Economics Asia-Pacific Committee (APA) recently announced that Linhard , CEO of Voith Group, will assume the chairmanship of the German Economics Asia Pacific Committee in early 2014. Linhard will take over from the former Siemens CEO Luo Xude.

The German Economic Asia-Pacific Committee is an organization representing a large number of German companies active in the Asia Pacific region and is committed to promoting two-way trade and investment between Asia and Europe. The German Economic Asia-Pacific Committee has played a unique role in promoting Sino-German economic and trade relations. During the exchange of visits between the leaders of China and Germany, they all delivered important speeches on Sino-German relations at the dinner hosted by the German Economic Asia-Pacific Committee.

The Voith Group is a leading global provider of technology and industrial services with four business units: Voith Hydro, Voith Industrial Services, Voith Paper and Voith Drives, serving energy, oil and Key markets such as natural gas, paper, raw materials, transportation and public transportation.

German business leaders such as former CEO of Siemens, Feng Bi Le, and former CEO of BASF, He Binjie, have all served as chairman of the German Economic and Asia Pacific Committee. Linhard will become the first CEO of a family-owned company to assume the chairmanship of the German Economic Asia-Pacific Committee. Founded in 1867, Voith is one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.

Linhard said: “We are committed to promoting two-way trade and investment between Asia and Europe, and continue to break the barriers to trade and investment. Compared with ten years ago, the value chain between Asia and Europe has become increasingly closer. We need Further promote the integration of the Asian market into the global economy."

Luo Xude, current Chairman of the German Economic and Asia-Pacific Commission, said: “German business and industry enjoys a good position in Asia. The German Economic and Asia-Pacific Commission regards coordination, innovation and sustainable development as the action program. This is in line with the direction of the leaders of Asia and Europe to solve global challenges. I am very proud to have been the Chairman of the German Economic and Asia-Pacific Committee since July 2010. In the future I will continue to work to promote the exchanges between Asia and Europe."

China is Germany’s most important economic partner in Asia, and Germany is China’s most important trading partner in Europe. In 2011, bilateral trade volume between China and Germany accounted for about one-third of China-EU trade volume. In 2012, the Chinese market accounted for 6% of German exports, which is close to half of Germany's exports to Asian markets.

The prospects for economic and trade cooperation between China and Germany are broad. Many large German companies represented by Voith have world-leading technologies and solutions in renewable energy, public transportation and environmental protection, etc., and can make important contributions to China's sustainable development. Voith Hydro participates in major hydropower projects in China including the Three Gorges, Longtan and Xiluodu. Voith Paper's environmental protection solutions are helping China's paper industry achieve green transformation. Voith's drive products are widely used in China's high-speed rail, urban transportation and other fields.

Linhard was born in southern Germany in 1951 and was CEO of Voith Group in 2008. Previously, he also served as a global executive in ABB's power department. Since 2003, Linhard has cooperated with the German Economic Asia Pacific Committee. Under the leadership of Linhard, Voith Group has continuously expanded its investment in China in recent years and strengthened its cooperation with China. In February 2012, Voith announced that it plans to increase its investment in China by 400 million euros within five years and significantly increase the total number of its employees in China in order to continue to promote the rapid growth of Voith's business in China. Voith’s largest training center outside of Germany was laid in Kunshan in November 2012.
