The power supply and demand in Hubei Province are still tense this and next year. The biggest power shortage in Hubei this summer will reach 1.26 million kilowatts, a record high; it is estimated that the annual electricity consumption will reach 76.6 billion kwh, an increase of 9.4% year-on-year. Insufficient supply of coal, seasonal dryness, and weak local grids are important reasons for the tight electricity supply in the province. Based on local conditions, Hubei Province has adopted a four-pronged approach to diversify its power generation.
In terms of natural gas power generation, two Wuhan natural gas peaking power plants, Wuhan Smith and Wuchang, were recently approved after the Wuhan Zhuankou natural gas peaking power plant was just put into production. The total investment of 5.52 billion yuan in the Hankou gas turbine power generation heating project is scheduled to start early next year, with an installed capacity of 220,000 kilowatts.
In the field of straw power generation, the first pilot power plant has recently been sited in Xiantao City, with an installed capacity of 20,000 to 30,000 kilowatts. After the successful pilot, Hubei Province will build 5 to 6 straw power plants.
In terms of wind power generation, the first phase of the Jiugongshan wind farm in Tongshan County was started last year, and the second phase of the 20,000 kilowatts project is also under preparation; the wind power at the Qiyueshan wind farm in Lichuan City has been measured, and the first phase of the 50,000 kilowatt project will be facing the community. Bidding; Xianjuding in Dawu County and wind measurement work for 4 preselected wind farms are underway.
In waste power generation, Hubei Province has deployed a total of five power plants, of which four have been selected for construction in Wuhan and one has been built in Jingzhou.

Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission recently announced that there are more than 10 natural gas power generation, wind power generation, straw power generation, and waste power generation projects under construction in Hubei Province or will soon be under construction.
