MAN won the promotion package order for 6 regional container ships
US logistics solution provider Tropical Shipping has ordered MAN's propulsion package for its six regional container ships built at Chinese shipyards for the company's fleet expansion needs.
Tropical Shipping has ordered four 1100TEU container ships, each of which will be equipped with a MAN B&W 6S60ME-C8.5 mainframe, as well as a TCA66-21 turbocharger and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) module. Meet Tier 3 emission requirements. The propulsion package will also include three MAN 6L23/30 Holeby generator sets and MAN TCR14 turbochargers, the latest generation of controllable pitch propellers, the VBS1550-5 Mk5 five-blade design thruster and the MAN Alpha rudder concept.
It is reported that Tropical Shipping also ordered two 300TEU container ships, each of which will be powered by a MAN 27/38 engine equipped with a TCR turbocharger. The new vessel is expected to be operational in June 2018.
