When an earthquake occurs, the electrolyte in the vessel sways, causing a change in the amount of charge "received" by the electrode, causing a change in the current in the circuit. After the data is amplified by the traditional method, the seismic intensity and other related conditions can be derived.

Most traditional seismographs rely on the mechanics principle to provide relevant data of earthquakes by recording the relative motion of certain components in the instrument, so the cost is high. At present, Russian researchers have made six new types of seismographs capable of detecting vibration frequencies ranging from 0.005 Hz to 100 Hz and are preparing for large-scale industrial production.
