Safety technology for electrolysis

In order to ensure the normal operation of the electrolysis, the catholyte should be carefully filtered and the anion and anolyte are evenly circulated. When the supply of catholyte or anolyte is stopped, or the circulation of the solution is blocked, the electrolysis should be stopped immediately. The cell and the equipment connected to it (especially the power supply knife contacts and other conductive parts) should always be kept clean and replaced immediately when the anode chamber is damaged.

The voltage supplied to the cell must not exceed 12V, which can be ensured by a fuse installed in the rectifier. In order to eliminate the short circuit of the electrode ground, an insulating layer should be provided under the electrolytic cell to insulate the tank body from the ground, and the pipe connected to the tank body should also be provided with an insulating mat. In order to facilitate operation and prevent circuit accidents, the conductive plates from the rectifier to the electrolytic cell should be laid at a location that does not interfere with operation, and the removal and assembly of the electrolytic cell and the loading and unloading of the anode and cathode groups should be performed under power failure.

Thiourea and sulfuric acid are corrosive liquids. Wear glasses and rubber gloves and aprons. During the electrowinning process, oxygen is precipitated at the anode due to a side reaction, and hydrogen is evolved at the cathode. These two gases are prone to fire and will atomize the solution. Although there are not many gaseous products precipitated under normal electrowinning conditions, it is a toxic gas mixture of sulfuric acid vapor and thiourea decomposition products (NH 3 , H 2 S, etc.), so an exhaust fan must be installed on the electrolytic cell and continuously discharged. Production operations are carried out under wind conditions.
