The global auto parts antitrust investigation issued more than $4.4 billion in fines, the industry that has suffered the most anti-monopoly fines to date, surpassing the $2 billion in fines imposed on LCD monitors and CRT monitor cartels. According to Mlex, 42 auto parts companies face anti-monopoly fines in various countries. In the United States alone, 32 companies have pleaded guilty and paid $2.4 billion in fines. In Europe, nine companies face a fine of 1.1 billion euros. In addition, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore have issued fines for auto parts manufacturers. As Europe continues to investigate pricing issues for automotive heating systems, exhaust systems, passenger safety systems and lighting systems, South Africa, Germany, etc. have initiated investigations into certain parts and components, and the total fines may continue to rise.
The financial services cartel may be the industry with the most fines for individuals. Since 2012, US and European antitrust and financial regulators have issued penalties of $5.9 billion to nine banks and two agents for the manipulation of London interbank lending rates and European interbank lending rates, of which 3.4 billion are antitrust or fraud fine. Due to the implementation of tougher policies by regulators such as the US Department of Justice, the financial services industry fines may continue to increase in 2015.
